This is a unique ranch for the area, with a good variety of grasses and an abundance of many types of browse making for good grazing yearlong. The variety of terrain and the availability of hunting and fishing in the area make this a great ranch to live on. The Ranch terrain is somewhat diverse with the topography being areas of level and gently sloping to areas of rougher and more scenic mountainous terrain. In the ranch area the rougher mountainous soils typically provide more recreational uses or wildlife habitat, as compared to the lower flats which will more often provide more of the forage for utilization by livestock. The elevation ranges from approximately 4,500 feet on the eastern edge of the property near Elephant Butte Lake to 10,000 feet in the higher mountain country and Vic's Peak. There are approximately 400 acres located in Socorro County (T9S, R6W) which are referred to as Rock Springs. These 400 acres consists of higher more scenic mountainous terrain and is covered with Ponderosa Pine, Pinion Pine, Juniper, and Oaks. Additionally, there are two sets of springs located on the 400 acres which produce water year round. The property primarily slopes from west to east with the San Mateo Mountains being to the west. Several draws, arroyos and canyons traverse the ranch property. The ranch is bordered by Cibola National Forest land to the north and Elephant Butte Lake to the east. The overall topography of the ranch is described as being diverse being a mix of desert flats, rolling hills covered with grass and juniper and oak brush draws leading to the higher more mountainous country with Ponderosa Pine, Pinon Pine, Juniper and Oaks. |
